Not your typical top is broken post

Hit the button on my top and the motor started and then stopped. Turned out something was binding in there and it snapped a bunch of linkages and stuff. I think the motor may still be good though.

Anyway, my question is, I disassembled the rest of the linkages to be able to close the top manually and between the car breaking often lately and my new job where they expect me to actually work and the drive to and from (50 miles in Chicago traffic each way) I'm pooped. It's October and I have two more months of my 986 being my daily driver so the top can wait until spring. Is it cool to just keep driving with only gravity holding the deck lid down? I keep my drain holes clear, but will parking / driving it in this condition in the rain have any adverse effects? Am I just being lazy?

Not the best but you should be fine at normal highway speeds. I drove around like that for a couple of months a couple years ago without issues. Most of my driving was at lower speeds in town as opposed to interstate driving.

You most likely broke the plastic push rod end(s). This is not an expensive or difficult repair so don't despair !
