Help, I may purchase these today...
Would these wheels fit my 986, what do you think is a fair price and are these decent wheels for my Boxster? I plan to have them touched up and painted matte black.
19" Porsche wheels and tires |
That's a good deal, I'm not sure if they'll fit. You can try using this calculator

Thank you Juicepro. Seems like a great tool but I'm not sure what I'm currently running besides that they are stock 17" wheels. Wheres all the wheel experts at tonight?!?
|
I have the same wheel in gloss black coming up for sale soon. They fit my 2001 S just fine using a 5mm spacer in the rear.
Here's a picture from an autocross event so you can see them on the car. http://i44.tinypic.com/1euzi9.png |
Thank you for the preview Nefarious. I have a base model 99, do you know if the fitment would be the same for me?
|
Thought I read somewhere not to run 19" wheels on a 99 Boxster, something about metal fatigue?
Why would you paint those gorgeous wheels black? |
I think that was pre 99 (I hope) hahaha
My car is white with black accents, so it would complete the look. The wheels also have some damage so they'll have to be painted anyways. They look good in black though... http://986forum.com/forums/uploads01...1380595585.jpg |
That doesn't look bad. What are you current wheels? Why not just paint those black?
|
This is what I am currently working with. Main goal is to upgrade in size otherwise I would just paint these 17's. Seller is back tomorrow, so I hope to seal the deal then.

I had to go with 5mm because that was the largest they had. Gonna order some 10mm spacers online though. What do you think of the fit?
|
Would like to see some more angles. The back looks perfect to me, but the front I'm not sure.
How did these wheels and tires affect the ride and handling? |

Gonna wash her up tomorrow and I will post some better pics. I think the back can use another 5mm, not sure about the front yet. Used the same lug nuts but if I go 10mm I will need longer ones.
The ride is a little more bumpy but its handeling well. Gonna have them recheck the balancing. |
Yeah they look very nice.
IMO this is one of the best looking wheels I've seen on Boxster though I might be a bit biased .. LOL. I just switch out to my new wheels yesterday and already miss these old ones. Hopefully the new ones will grow on me. Here's a pix to compare. http://i43.tinypic.com/nx51c2.jpg |

Your new set is a very good look though, can you post a pic of the whole car? Why did you switch wheels anyways? |

Reason for switch was weight. The 19s looked very good ( I was biased too .. still am .. LOL ) however was not the best for autocross. Switched to light weight 18s in hope of being more competitive in my class. LOL

What you need is the ball seat lug bolt with a R14 (ball radius). Nothing else |
Thank you Johnny and Nine8Six for your quick response. Could either of you provide me with a link for the correct set. It's been real tough to locate, especially when you arent mechanically inclined like myself. The bolts I posted have the r14 ball radius that you mentioned in the description Nine8Six. Are these still incorrect? Thanks guys

I found these in a previous post by Johnny. Just purchased this set. It's a much better spacer then the one I got at the tire shop and its 7mm vs 5mm.

You are right, missed the desc "Seat Style: Ball Seat 14mm Radius (R14) With Spin Seat Design". From the picture they appeared to be something different. Late night, red eyes and all..... Apologies.
The spacers above and lug bolts seems to be fine. Actually I just browse at this eBay seller's stocks and I'm thinking about going for a set of his 'rust proof' black zinc plated lugs myself - I could get rid of my cheap black plastic caps I'm using to hide the OEM crappy & rusty lugs that Porsche puts on their cars. Thanks for the link ;) |
Nice! They have a big selection and seems reasonably priced. I'm looking forward to getting rid of those rusty bolts myself!! Happy motoring :)
|
Happy indeed!
Out of context; but had a business appointment near your happy valley last autumn and I have to say it was blast when I saw that 'Smiley Face' from the freeway (LOL). I bet it's vandalism and illegal but regardless I loved the idea. Good spot and effective :D |
