Coolant Cap saga ...

Ok I replaced my coolant cap with the latest - 996106 447 04. My indie had both the blue -which I tried first - and a black that I just put on.

He showed me both packages, and they both had the 996106 447 04 stock number.

Both still allow condensation on the rear lid above the cap!!?? The black is maybe a little better.
Anyone else having difficultly with condensation with the new caps?

Cheers.

Hmm. Maybe try checking the coolant bleeder valve - might be not fully closing/sealing.

+1 for your bleeder valve, specifically, one or both of the O-rings. I had the same issue on 2 Boxsters. Replacing the O rings solved condensation issue on each of the cars.

Mine was the same after replacing the coolant cap - no difference. I tried tightening the screws on the bleeder valve cover which made it worse, next thing is replacing the O rings as mentioned above.

I just did the upgrade. I don't get the large amount of slippery (coolant ) condensation any more. I do get some very mild wetting. It's not all the time. I'm thinking, especially as it's getting cooler, that this is warm (Expansion tank, cap) on cold metal (Trunk lid). It doesn't feel slippery like before. The warmer the day, sometimes no condensation. I am going to look at the bleeder as I have never looked at it before to see what is going on there

I had condensation on the trunk lid until I changed my heater core last Friday. Old core had brown foam material attached that lines the vents. Leaking coolant looked like grease at the base of the heater core compartment. Also, had coolant smell through the vents. All good now.
