Winter Tires For Boxter (1999)
Hello
I have searched for information on Rims and Tires for winter driving Have a 99 Boxter that will be seeing winter condition, Need information on where to get a decent (not expensive) winter rims that will fit. Would like to go to the base 16" size - these are for winter after all and really don't need anything fancy Thanks |
Some more information - it currently has 17" rims - I can find winters for the front but not the rear - I have not tried but do the front rims fit on the rear? Are there any offset issues? I am thinking for the winter running a 205 vs a 255 may be more effective in snow.
Thanks |
I have 16 inch rims and snow tires on my 2001 Boxster base. I bought them 2nd hand - tires are probably a little old now but do the job. Car sits lower than having 17 inch summer tires . The next time I am in the garage I will let u know what size they are.
Cheers, G. I drive max in 3 inches of snow. Anything much more I would be a snowplow. It is a good winter driver otherwise. No psm. I take it easy on the corners. |
Duezzer, I have a set with Blizzaks from my old car for sale, sent you a PM.

My 2000 base has:
Rear, 17" Cup 3 Turbo, 17 X 8 rim, 225/45 Michelin X-ice Front, 17" Cup 3 Turbo, 17 X 7,5 rim, 225/45 Michelin X-ice |
If I had to get winter tires again for my 2001 Boxster base then I would get 17 inch.

Although my tires/rims are not for sale here are the measurements. They actually are the same as mentioned in my 2001 Box base manual.
front 205 55 R16 rear 225 50R R16 Trust this helps. |
Find a set of take-off 16" rims for cheap and mount 205s all around for snow.

I grew up with rally and rallycross, they always used studded narrow tires for awesome grip. I was thinking budget as in "take-off 16" rims" :) |
Tire Rack Info
Tire Rack suggests I go with 17"X7.5 on the Front and 17"X8.5 on the rear with a 224/45r17 Michelin X Ice 12 -
Does this sound reasonable? - They stated the 225/45s will fit either rim They have some inexpensive rims available. Where else can a person get reasonable priced rims? Thanks for all the info so far. Really appreciate it. |
I have talked with Tire Rack and their recommendation is to put on their inexpensive rims $160 ea - Front a 7.5 X 17 and Rear 8.5 X 17 and have Michelin X ice 12s put on - They say 225/45R17 will fit both rim sizes. Does this sound reasonable?
I have found a place that does refurbished rims and have the 7 X 17 fronts for 225ea. Anyone know if these will fit on the rear? Then I could go with 205/50R17 all the way around and keep the stock look Thanks Appreciate the help |
Your first option is almost identical to mine.

You Guys Rock
If anyone knows where I can find 4 - 7X17 stock rims for a 99 Boxter in the Calgary area please let me know - Gladly pay $100 ea for ones in good shape Thanks Again |
If you are not in the Calgary area I am willing to pay the shipping from where ever they are at. If $100 is to low ping me with the price and we can go from there
Thanks Again |
