Could be good news for those looking for bargains on 986's or 996's, could be bad news if you were looking to sell either. I seriously doubt it (this article) would have a major impact on resale values though, they have already fallen substantially.

Couldnt agree more. Everyday someone is showing up excited to buy one of these cars...the IMS is old news. Sounds like we need to worry about the 26 other known issues and how to overcome those

"If you can trust Porsche what can you do?"

Easy. Call 1-800-LNE. Done.
Phone busy? Cal 1-800- PELICAN. Done.

That's TWO "substitutes".

This article makes good bird cage liner. Some people expect to be spoon-fed information about their cars and get mad because they never bothered to research their own costly investments. Out-of-Warranty means you're on the hook to stay on top of your car's needs. Something easily done in the internet era.

Each individual has to do what is best for themselves. Hey Polkfarmboy I am 67 yo and don't take Viagra but I do remember that my new 1972 Austin Mini started burning oil at 30k miles (probably accelerated by the fact that I had a Stromberg carb and headers installed) and the Boxster obviously was not my first car.

What has this to do with this thread? Well many of us are getting a high performance car at a fraction of the new price. My Mini had a warranty, not very long and my 2001 Box base bought 2 years ago has no warranty left. Read Perfectlap's thread. Read regrets about buying a Boxster. Few regrets if any. Do what is best for yourself and if you have worries buy a Boxster with a warranty(CPO?) or get the ims changed with the new and improved. Drive on. Enjoy life. Life is short.

39 1/2 thousand Boxsters? The failure rate must be around 1%.

I coined the term "The Substitute" in 2007 and "Now there is a substitute" in 2008.
I'll have to send that writer an email, I like his style.

After having at least one, and possibly both rear wheel bearings and a motor mount go at 40k miles, and looking at "preventative maintenance" to include LNE IMSB, RMS, AOL, clutch and pressure plate, and water pump, I'm pretty sure I'm driving my first and last P-car. It's a great car to drive but that amount of maintenance at 40k miles is ridiculous.

I will find a substitute. But I will miss that engine sound.

Prices are right along with all the other German cars that were NOT built by hand. MBs and Beamers all nose dive when out of warranty and with high miles. And rightfully so!

Another option is to wait until something breaks before replacing it.;)

I would think if you have the LN IMS Retrofit done, your car would be worth more money... no?
