98 Boxster windows won't close (3.5 in) all the way

Was driving into work this morning and fiddling with both window switches, now both windows will not close the last 3.5 inches.

Again - They operate fine in the lower range. It's just that they won't close off that last 3.5 inches.

I would really appreciate your help.

I've had some weird window problems like that, very sporadically. Each time I have got them working properly again by shutting off the ignition and re-starting the car.

This could be your top sensor. Try unlatching it, then re-latching it (making sure it is seated good) and then try the windows again. It doesn't happen very often with my 986 but every now and then my latch doesn't seat properly and I have the same symptoms you are describing.

Hope this helps

If Meat Head's suggestion doesn't do the trick, try this. Open the top so the latch clears the top of the windshield. Then push the spot (button of sorts) with your finger where the latch strikes the sensor switch on the windshield frame.

fix

It's fixed now, and I'm not certain that this will work again, but I stuck the key in the door and kept it cranked full left, ccw. This opened the windows all the way, then I turned the key full cw and it closed them all the way.

Thank you all.

Your suggestions got me thinking and reading the owners manual.

Lower each window an inch or so then close. Release the switch, then push and hold the switch in the up position for 5 seconds.
