Leather seat rough patches/spots

I have seat covers on, but the areas where the seat is not covered, the leather is really rough, almost like an 80 grit sand paper. It's really strange, it's' only in certain areas, any ideas what would have caused this?

The next seat covers will cover the entire head rest, so it won't be an issue.

But I was just curious what could cause this.

Could be anything from a bad leather batch, improper maintenance, and even the fabric cleaning materials you use to clean your trousers at home. Could be 10-20x different possible reasons mate. Hard to say.

Since you mention about abrasive paper, I've restored mine with some #280 & #600 and they came soft like baby skin. There are few silicon based sprays made to restore the leather cracks, and a range of dyes made to go with it if you feel up to the challenge.

Often the best thing to do is to just drop the car to a leather restoration professional and let him do his magic. At the end of the day it comes down to the same price almost. DIY restoration materials (commercial ones anyway) are way overpriced imo.

Thanks, I'll check out an upholstery shop.
