Going on another road trip-need advice!!

After last years 7 week road trip across Western Canada & the Southern U.S. I'm getting the itch for another adventure but this time East into Quebec City and Gaspe Peninsula. Maybe Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont on the way back? Never been to any of these places so any advice on things to see & stuff to do would be greatly appreciated! Please keep mind I'm addicted to pulled pork and smoked meats of any kind...

The New England states are particularly beautiful during the foliage season, usually during the first half of October. And the back roads are just as awesome.

The peak of the season varies each year, depending upon temperature and moisture content. You can check online for updates to determine when the best time to travel would be.

I grew up in New England, and I sorely miss this time of year.

Here are a couple New England tips:
While in NH check out the Kancamagus Highway (RT 112). It's a really fun drive with lots of curves through a river valley and then climbs up through the mountains offering spectacular views between Conway and Lincoln, NH. In North Conway I'd recommend eating at the Moat Mountain Smokehouse. They're a microbrewery and both the beer and food are great!

In VT there are lots of great roads. RT 17 heading west to east from Bristol to Waitsfield is an EPIC drive! The switchbacks and hairpins are a blast! Then make your way to Waterbury and check out Prohibition Pig - VT farm to table bbq style & smoked meats. They also have an unbelievable VT craft beer selection. It's one of my favorite places to eat!! You can also hit the Ben & Jerry's headquarters for dessert.

Only downfall is traffic can be quite heavy on these roads on weekends and during the fall foliage season.
