Locking Gas Flap?

Is the body flap that opens to the gas tank supposed to be locked when the doors are locked. Mine does not.....

On the 987- yes.

I don't know about the 986.

The 987 has a small actuator that locks the flap.

yes on 986 too.

Mine does.

Mine doesn't. It should do tho, but the mechanism is sort of busted.

I never knew mine locked until I read this thread, it works.

docdyh 01-16-2006 03:23 PM

so why doesn't mine work..does it need some sort of actuator?

When you lock the car you should see a little peg poke out. You can open the gas flap and then lock/unlock the car and watch for it.

My flap lock recently started making a really loud click when I lock the door, but I can't figure out what changed in the mechanism.

Hi,

One thought occurs to me. There is an Emergency Release cable for the Fuel Flap located in the Passenger Side Door Jamb.

Inspect this to insure that it is not kinked or hanging up in any way preventing the Latch from Locking. You might also try pulling it several times to try and loosen a stuck mechanism. Hope this helps...

 Maybe a little lubrication of the lock and cable might help. Since it is exposed to weather,

Fuel flap release broken

Flap was jammed I tried to use release by pulling ring and complete plastic pull thread came out. Has a smaller ring on working end which must attach to something. Can this easily be fixed?

Great

This is why forum's like this are so great. I too never knew about the locking cover. I checked mine and the mechanism was working but the cover did not lock because the retaining clip had fallen off and down below the cap in the tray. Replaced it where it was supposed to be and it locks again. Great question and information.
