LN engineering IMS
Is there any studies on how many on engineering bearings have failed after install?
|
Thousands of LN IMS Retrofit bearing have been installed. The best estimates seem to be: zero failures for dual row bearings; less than a handful of unconfirmed single row bearing failures. A 2003 Boxster uses a single row bearing.
|
As a matter of fact, since the single row retrofits are not fully failproof (though the failure rate seems to be extremely minuscule) LN is beginning to phase out the single row IMS bearing retrofit for what they call the "IMS solution." Its essentially a standard bearing (rather than a ball bearing) fed by pressurized oil. It is currently only available from them but, I believe, will make its way to trained Indy mechanics in the near future. (The more robust dual row retrofit has seen zero failures and does not need a "solution" at this time).

I've heard that dealers and repair shops can buy the IMS Solution from SSF Auto Parts now. The public cannot buy the IMS Solution
