I changed the oil today on my car with no problems(besides staining my garage floor). I would have paid alot more at the dealer and not learned a thing,but I did it and learned alot along the way. Many of you have taught me alot about my Boxster in the past 3 months I have had it. I owe a thank you to you all.

I did the same thing. First I let the oil drain bolt fall into my oil catch tray. Naturally it worked its way into the oil opening. Fortunately I noticed almost as soon as it started overflowing the container. But in a stoopid moment I concluded the oil container must have had some oil in it, so my moment of trying to find a second container slowed my diagnosis of the real problem. Maybe 2 quarts worth of stoopid.

Then after that mess was cleaned up, I left small container under the Box overnite to catch what I thought would be a cup or so. Must have been at least a pint. Another, albeit smaller, mess.

I did learn that kitty litter works best if you really grind it into the floor with you foot. Then apply garage floor cleaner.

I've been changing my own oil for years, so no idea why the Box got me rattled.

The easiest way to change the oil is use a floor jack and lift up the left side in front or the rear wheel. Get under there and do your biz and let the car back down so it is level. Once drained, lift back up replace filter and plug and add oil. Just make sure you have a big container! 9+ quarts of oil is alot! Super easy that way and no pesky ramps.

Yes, had the same problem. Now I have a piece of hardware cloth (1/2" square opening screen) over the drain hole when I do an oil change. Don't have to panic and fish out the drain plug from the hot oil to prevent an Exxon Valdiz moment!

Please oh please remember the jack stand(s) if you do it this way. Flattened Boxster enthusiasts are far less fun.
