I don't know if the baggy will hold or not. but, having done the coolant tank replacement, I can tell you that replacing that hose is challenging and will likely result in some blood loss.

If you still have the original coolant tank (is it all yellowed and old looking?)you may want to pre-emptively replace that along with the cap and level sensor as it will probably crack soon too and make a big mess in your trunk. There's lots of info on this in the forum. Be warned that it is a nasty, difficult, time-consuming job and you will need a good selection of tools, particularly a remote hose clamp tool, to do it.
