Need help with an oil change spill

When I am not stranded, I will do more searching than the couple searches I have done. For right now, I am a new owner with a new-to-me 2002 S with 116k. I had put a 1/2 quart of oil in when I brought it home, so I have been able to add oil normally. Since then the only things new that I can think of are that I have put the roof in service position twice and when I was first filling tonight the car was still jacked up on the drivers side from when i drained it. Here is what happened:

Tonight after I drained all of the oil out, I closed it up and started to fill it with oil. It seems to go straight down to the ground. I went down to watch while my son poured some and it came straight down the passenger side. It was not leaking from the drain hole nor the filter canister.

I looked down the fill hole and the tube curves toward the front. I can't see what is wrong nor understand why it became a problem.

Put the top back in service mode and have a look where the oil filler tube comes through from the coolant tank area. You may find that the section of filler tube inside the engine compartment has detached from the coolant tank manifold and can be put back on with a new hose clamp, or it has actually split in which case you will need to replace it. Part # is 996.107.254.03. Pelican has 'em for $43.75

If you replace it, some will recommend that you replace the hose clamps with the screw kind. I bought the proper tools to work with the factory clamps instead. It's a personal preference thing.

There is a bellows tube attaching to the oil filler tube which is somewhat level and parallel to the ground. It is at the bottom of the filler tube and at a right angle. I understand these are prone to splitting. A split on the passenger side of the tube could leak when the car was tilted in that direction but not when level.

Thank you both - that is what it was. I felt backward toward the trunk and could feel a split where it was attached. Do you think ziptieing a baggy over it will be good enough to drive it to the shop for repair? How hard is it to do it myself when one end is under the intake and I can't see the other end?

I did ensure there is oil in it and that everything is closed up. So the only issue is if the baggy will hold the vacuum.

I don't know if the baggy will hold or not. but, having done the coolant tank replacement, I can tell you that replacing that hose is challenging and will likely result in some blood loss.

If you still have the original coolant tank (is it all yellowed and old looking?)you may want to pre-emptively replace that along with the cap and level sensor as it will probably crack soon too and make a big mess in your trunk. There's lots of info on this in the forum. Be warned that it is a nasty, difficult, time-consuming job and you will need a good selection of tools, particularly a remote hose clamp tool, to do it.

It did hold for the 30 miles I drove it to the shop. My idle was perfect - i will be glad when the new hose is on! Thanks a million!
