New baby in the family
Last Saturday I made an addition to the stable...1999 Carrera 4! Arctic silver over Metropol blue full leather, 6sp, 50,500 miles at purchase. Paid 18k, so I feel I did pretty good. This will be my daily driver, which is why I was looking for the all-wheel- drive. It's got a few little dings in the body and leather- looks like stuff may have been stored in/around the car, but its nothing too terrible.
First mod to come:IMS bearing swap. Woo-hoo!http://986forum.com/forums/uploads01...1369766614.jpg http://986forum.com/forums/uploads01...1369766629.jpg |
nice garage! you've got it covered:cheers:
I really like those wheels!! (same as mine) The outer barrel lip is clearcoat on alum and there's little adhesion as a result. This causes small chips to form and oxiodation quickly follows. Proper repair requires disassembly, sanding of the outer lip ( not finer than 600 or there'll be even less adhesion) and then clearcoat applied and reassembly. It's a big job and you'll probably have to do it yearly if you DD, including winter. I went for 3 or 4 tours around the valley last winter and the brine (salt) that was down (dry and not really visible) attacked my wheels throughout the rest of the winter. By spring they were unrecognisable! ( outer lip only- the painted portion was fine) |
Yes, congrats on the new addition! I will be very envious this winter.

Very nice! You'll love the 996 as a daily driver (I know that I do). I have the same wheels on my 1999 996 C2 and while they look great, they are also a biatch to clean!
The prices of 996's are simply appalling right now - if anyone ever wanted to own a 911, this is the time to do it! |
Got my tags in the mail about an or after I posted
