Spin Lock Question

I have a 2001 S that I just purchased a hardtop for. My question, do I need to buy Spin Locks for this model and year?

There seems to be a hole already that is slotted to accept the posts on the hardtop. When I put the top on and tighten down the levers it isn't as tight to the body as I would have expected.

I looked at 9x6 Werks DVD preview pictures of a spin lock and my existing holes definetly do not look like what is shown there as a "spin lock".

Any help appreciated.

Can you take a picture and show us? The size of the hole in the spin lock should be the same size as the posts from the hard top (maybe 1/4" in diameter).

When you push those 2 handles to lock down the top, is it easy or difficult? It should require a bit of effort.

Also, as you're turning/pusing those handles, does the rear of the top seem to attach itself -almost like a suction effect? It oughtta!

I presume you DO need to buy spin locks for your car.

Attaching a couple of pictures, this is the driver's side.

When I put the levers in place it doesn't take much effort, but it does feel like the roof is secured. There is still a fairly big gap between the top and the body of the car though, enough that I can easily put my finger tips in and feelt he weatherstriping from the hardtop.

I took it out for a drive and outside of the small airflow noise coming from the drivers side window it seemed pretty secure.

Nope, you don't have them...

The blue below represents where you should have a) the spin lock & b) the screw that holds the spin lock in place.



These pieces came with my hardtop, but it's to my understanding that they cost less than $45 from a dealership. There should be some posts on this board about the install of the spin locks. For me, it took about 1.5 hours to do the first one, then 3 minutes to do the second. The reason it can be a tricky procedure is because you have to do a dance with putting the top up and down -and avoid dropping the screw while installing.
