its not really under the ashtray.
you need to open the compartment at the center console,and remove the rubber mat. then you will see a screw that holds a plastic cover. remove the screw and the cover, and you will get to the adjusting nuts.
this is how it looks with the console removed (but you don't have to remove the whole console to get to it).
