colour coding wheels?

I've recently collected by 2000 S from the body shop after having the GT2 front, turbo rear and GT3 sides fitted

http://www.muchos.co.uk/members/perr...2 side web.jpg

now...........on monday the shop is collecting my nice new 19" Daytona Race alloys from the supplier

Daytone Race 3 piece

I was considering having the central spoked area painted speed yellow as it can easily be removed, leaving the outer rim and allen bolt area in polished finish.

whats your thoughts guys/gals? cool or too much?

cheers

Perry

Thanks bud!

what do you reckon to the painting of the new wheels? better left as they come or yellow spokes would set them off just right?

really really cant make my mind up and the body shop needs to know in the morning

perry190 12-18-2005 04:07 AM

hers a better picture of the turbo style rear

Your car looks great now. I like the front bumber and side skirts.

Trying to keep the yellow wheels clean could be a real chore!

perry190 12-18-2005 04:50 AM

Mmmmm cleaning very good point!

Mark986 12-18-2005 07:20 AM

Perry,

IMHO your car looks great; the new wheels will be all the bling it needs. I think adding the yellow to your new wheels will be over the top and result in a somewhat cartoonish look or even worse, "ricer". Love the front bumper and the rear quarters. Looks like they did a really nice job on the paint.

bmussatti 12-18-2005 09:33 AM

It is pretty amazing how interchangeable these different parts are from different Porsche's!

perry190 12-18-2005 10:47 AM

must admit the more I'm thinking about it I'm leaning towards not painting the wheels, or at least seeing them on the car first rather than rushing into it

thanks for all your comments/opinions

sdkkv 12-18-2005 12:29 PM

Put them on the car and then Photoshop a picture of them...It could give you all kinds of ideas!

perry190 12-18-2005 01:09 PM

The infamous Tool Pants over on Renntech kindly posted a pic of a porsche with yellow rims as an idea of what they could look like

http://www.renntech.org/forums/uploa...1431_thumb.jpg

now I'm really in two minds as to me they look pretty damn good!

bmussatti 12-18-2005 01:26 PM

Looks good!

But, we like to think of him as Toolpants from 986forum.com!!!!!!!!

D.L. 12-18-2005 04:03 PM

DO IT! That would really be the icing on the cake! I've wanted black rims on my triple black box FOREVER and haven't gotten around to doing it yet! The polished lip would really set it off and add just enough visual contrast to avoid the "ricer" look. I SAY DO IT!

creseida 12-18-2005 07:09 PM

I will first start off by saying that I am somewhat biased against the colour of your car, in that I do not like yellow anything.

That being said, I think your car looks quite sharp, but I would go with black and silver wheels instead of yellow. IMHO, colour coded wheels (except on black or silver cars) make the car look... well... like it belongs to a 21 year old with more dollars than sense.

olly986 12-19-2005 10:27 AM

sorry just a quick.....don't like those wheels, sorry again!!

no need tt apologize matey. life would be boring if we all liked the same things

olly986 12-19-2005 12:08 PM

hi perry didn't realised you are in uk, who did your body conversion, have a turbo bumper from essential styling going on the S soon, was on my 2.5l before but needs mending before reinstalling.
wise thought, would hate to have same car, same house and same wife as any one else

perry190 12-19-2005 12:24 PM

Olly

the conversion parts were supplied by Essential and fitted by a bodyshop Simon uses in Reading.

Were coming over to Ireland next year for a few days so you'll have to look out of the yellow flash ;-) I think were staying near limmerick, but will be doing the sites all over

any pics of ther turbo front on your 2.5? if not you'll have to post some when it goes on the S

PAH 12-20-2005 03:41 AM

What a great looking car! I think I need to get in touch with Essential and get the front bumper and skirts....and keep saving for the read bumper!!

Don't worry though, my car is silver and I live about 300 miles away from you, so I don't think I'll be stealing your thunder!!!

If I were you though, I'd leave the wheels silver. If you paint the multi-spoke design a solid colour (like yellow or red) they tend to look like they're made of plastic for some reason. I've seen it done a few times. Maybe have a play around with photoshop on a PC and see what you think though.

Out of interest, is that a 2003 style spoiler you have fitted, and also a glass rear screen on your hood?

All the best

Paul

Rail26 12-20-2005 04:26 AM

Differnent strokes for different folks...I really do not like painted wheels. But that is just me...the Porsche is yours and you should do whatever you think looks good.

perry190 12-20-2005 05:07 AM

Hi Paul

thanks for the comments on the car !

yep its the BAS replacement hood with glass rear screen, simon at Essential now fits these as well (£695 inc fitting and vat)

And yes again, its the later model spoiler. My turbo style rear bumper was the first that Essential had taken delivery of and it turned out that is was made for the later model, consequently they changed the spoiler over to suit the shape of the bumper at the top.

if you like you go fo it bud! As you probs know the general UK owner doesnt mod his porsche so even with two of us we'll still be pretty unique :-)

I've already told the body shop to paint the wheels and I'm picking them up on thursday, so we'll have ot see how they turn out. fortunately being a split rim its not that hard to return the centres to gun metal or the likes if I dont like them yellow...............fingers crossed tho.

olly986 12-20-2005 03:39 PM

hi perry
have poor picture of the 2.5 front but will post S picture when reinstall, will probably get rear wing from simon too in the new year, was going to invest in white lenses but new car has them already
cheers

perry190 12-24-2005 04:18 AM

not very good pictures as its cloudy and dark, but I'm happy with how theyve turned out :D

just need to get some new porsche centre caps and bolt covers to finish them off as i'll be selling my old 18's with the existing crested centre caps in place

Very nice, looks very sharp.

bmussatti 12-24-2005 07:35 AM

Looks nice. I hope you get a good wheel brush and cleaner from Santa!

perry190 12-24-2005 07:42 AM

cheers guys! :-)

must admit it took me about 30 mins with a small sponge to clean them, so a wheel brush had better be under the tree tomorrow!

thanks again

P

olly986 12-27-2005 01:45 AM

hi perry and happy christmas
i have to say that it looks nicer than the pic on previous thread, i also had some similar wheels on an 320 bmw years ago (BBS) which was a serious pain to clean at the time i used a product that needed to be mixed with a little water and shaken well then applied with a small brush. a little time consuming but the result was good, i am sure they are lots of products out there now that will do a similar job, by the way santa just brought me a karcher which i am going to try later on, maybe this will make it easier too!

perry190 12-27-2005 03:02 AM

Merry Xmas Olly!

I was considering a karcher or possibly a steam cleaner to aid with the process. Only thing I found when I had a jet washer before was that with a cold water fead it didnt work as well as the garage ones which of course use hot water.

I plumbed in a hot water outside tap but the pressure wasnt good enough to keep the jet washer supplied correctly and it kept 'searching' and didnt like it at all.

will be interested to see how you get on with your new toy ;-)

P

bmussatti 12-27-2005 05:25 AM

Hey guys sorry I have to ask...but what is a karcher??

Thanks.

perry190 12-27-2005 06:18 AM

Hi
Karcher is a european supplier of jet washers and the like (german i think) they are usually viewed as the quality end ofthe market over here when compared with the cheap ones you can get in home depot type stores

bmussatti 12-27-2005 06:22 AM
