New water pump failure
OEM pump. Dead after 200 miles. Shops says lately 10% of Porsche parts they buy directly are defective. No damage. Shop had to eat $$$. On a lighter note, it cost $265.00 to change dash light. (pun not intended)

Was that the root cause of your post from last week?:

last posting was about how old water pump was dying and it was a good thing I had them change pump while motor mounts were being done. And how new motor mounts fixed many issues I was having.

I just had it changed it as well. Really strong smell of coolant for the first day. They must have just finished job. Crossing fingers I didn't get a dud.
So if the part is defective who compensates who for the labor on the replacement part? That bill was a bit bigger than I was expecting for that job. But that's only because I didn't sit down and tabulate hours plus parts until they called to say the car was ready. At any rate for those who haven't done this through an indy specialist yet my first and only coolant flush (after 10 years) ran about $400, the coolant tank cracked a while later so that ran $600 if memmory serves and replacing the wp and thermostat after roughly 80+K miles was about $1,000. Did I mention I had the rotors done too? $2K just like that. But to be fair those were the original rotors from 13 years ago. Those of you not setting aside a couple a grand or two a year for each year of ownership for repairs might want to start learning to DIY. I don't think I've ever had non-minor maintance work done that ran less than $500. |
$400 to flush the coolant?

2 years...about 10K in repairs, tires, etc. Hell it was $265.00 to replace the burned out light for the odometer.
