Quick Question on Metra harness.
Hey guys..quick question about these Metra wiring kits for the radio. I tried to search but didn't turn up what I was looking for.
What kit do I actually need to get for my Base 98? (CDR210 in there now) Metra 70-1784? Metra 70-1787? Any research I've done keeps turning up they only works with the OEM Bose amplified system? Anyone with a base Boxster who's been down this road already care to shed some light on this for me? Much appreciated! |
I also have a 98 Boxster equipped with the CDR-210 head unit. I'm thinking seriously about putting an aftermarket head unit in mine and would like to know the info that the OP is asking about myself.

I was really hoping for some info on this.

Maybe I should also state that my Box has the door speakers, amp in the frunk and the CDR-210 head unit. I just want to be sure to purchase the right wiring harnes when changing to an aftermarket head unit.

Pelican Technical Article: Changing Your Boxster Stereo Head Unit / Installing Boxster Ipod Integration - 986 / 987 They used the Metra brand, PN: 70-1787 (VW/Bose AMP Integration), and the Euro antenna adapter kit from Scosche, PN: VWA-KB Their article also includes some nice images and wiring diagrams. Hope this helps |
Thanks..I've read that write up. I just wasn't sure if the same harness would apply since my car dosn't have the Bose system.
The harness is cheap so I'll just go ahead and give it a try..I'll let you know how I make out when I get around to it. |
I believe the bose system uses fiber optic wiring, which would make the job completely different and the metra harness would not work. They only covered the Becker unit swap in their instructions.
Good luck |
