Off topic but.... Beware! Credit Card thieves!
Hi all!
Never thought this can happen to us but here we go. Our credit card was hacked yesterday and it will take our Credit Union a week to replace, I just returned signing an affidavit and all that. Beware! The thieves charged two small amounts to check if it works (acutally one charge in New York "eyezon" for like 4.25 and one in Texas "Hollandlodge" for like 6.25) and then they go for everything! Luckily card services caught on right away, so now all is stopped. No idea when/how this happened, just a wild guess on my side, we used the card to buy some Porsche parts from Pelican and Amazon, other than that just the usual at the grocery and such locally. I hope you guys don't mind posting this here, just a friendly reminder to watch your CC charges. Later, Andy |
This has happened to me 3 times in the last two years
Thankfully, my bank is always on top of things and so far, not a dime out of my pocket ;) |
Banks are usually good at catching thieves that prey on one person...
It's large corporations that are scary. AT&T 'accidentally' charges their users $.57 and refunds it in a form of paper check. Nobody cashes a check that small. Suddenly they're millions richer |

Happened to me with credit cards twice in the last year. Even worse was they got into my online bank account and cashed out $1,300 in bonus points. Bank fixed it all but it was a PITA.
|
My bank is so pro acvtive in this that they denied a charge I was making because I had used the card an "unsual amount of times" in the last couple of days. Pretty embarassing to be at the grocery store and have the debit card denied.....
Nothing a quick phone call didn't fix though |
A week to replace it seems extreme.
What if you were leaving the country in 2 days? You'd be going without that card? Not to promote Citi (they're crooks) but this has happened to me and they overnight new cards. |
Last year my credit card showed up with a $500 charge to Arctic Foods. Never did figure out who they were. But, Chase cancelled the charge and sent me a new card over night.

This also happened to my mother in law last year. She doesn't shop with her card online and people were still able to get her card info. It was believed someone had walked by her with an RF reader that took the info from her smart chip. Since then we have all purchased an RF protecting wallet. It is basically lined with a material that blocks RF transmission.
Just a thought, I would hate for any websites to get blamed. Keep ion mind as well that if your card leaves your hands at a restaurant, etc. keep an eye on it or the server at all times. Hate that we have to live this way but ID Theft, is a huge PITA! |
jeez next thing ya know, we ll be back to cash! I m waiting for it!
|
Just to make it perfectly clear, I don't blame anybody or any website! No idea how the bad guys got hold of the CC number......
Peace! |
Someone used my wife's card to open a website that offered car loans to poor credit folk if they sent in $500 down. I had a German guy calling my house ( they had our address and phone too ) telling me to call FBI because my wife stole his money and no give to him car!!!!
