small oil drip on driverside cat
I have 2001 box base 2.7. I have a small drip of oil hanging on the motor just above the driver side cat converter.
Just enough to drip once in a while on the cat and stink that burning oil smell at stop signs and when I get out of the car. I can’t see where its coming from. Any mechanics out there have any candidates for places to start looking? Maybe someone has had this problem before. Thanks in advance |
Check your spark plug tubes.

I find that most O-rings start to seep oil after about 40,000 miles. Happy Boxstering, Pedro |
interesting - my dealer supposedly replaced plugs and tubes during the 60k service about a month ago.
could it be something else or should I be havin a word with him about it? |
Sometimes the tubes themselves become cracked by the extraction tool during the o-ring change procedure.
The cam cover gastket could also be an oil leak source but the spark plug tubes are much more likely. |
I would check the oil cooler seal as this could leak down onto the cat. I would have thought the spark plus tubes are too far forward to drop onto the cat itself?

I'd be worried if an 986 didn't drip oil. Our cars have character.
Keep your eye on it, and make sure your oil level stays correct. / |
