dash cams

I'd like to put a dash cam in the car. I'm not looking to capture hi-def recordings of my amazing exploits, I just want something to record proof of encounters - accidents, conversations with the local constabulary, etc. So what I'm really saying here is that I'm cheap and I don't want to spend $500 on a snazzy GoPro if I can avoid it.

Has anyone found any good cams in the $100 to $200 range that would fit the bill? Or is the lower priced stuff just junk? My plan was to mount something off the roll bar between the seats.

I like the gopro's a lot. They're great action cameras. I found my gopro hero3 silver for $230 which is alittle more than what you are trying to spend. You can probally find the hero2 more in your price range which is still a great option.
