wrong oil filter
i was changing my oil today. i bought a filter from the internet (sad to admit..ebay). when i removed the old filter, the new one didn't fit. the inner opening was too small on the new one. i specifically ordered a filter that supposedly fit the boxster. figured i made a mistake by buying it on ebay, i went to autozone and bought another one. however, when i got home, i realized i had the same problem. the dealership was already closed so i just reused the old filter. but has this happened to anyone else? i normally buy it from suncoast or dealer..now learned my lesson.

The OEM style filter cartridge is a "force fit" over the center because it uses treated paper end caps. That is way it creates a seal.

Ditch those crappy flat paper end filters. Get a NAPA Gold. Very nice filter. Well made and has plastic ends.

I use a couple of german made filters and they both have to be forced on. Get a bigger hammer.

I buy my oil filters from Pelican Parts. I don't go cheap on this kind of thing. They need very little force to get the filter on. I have been very satisfied with Pelican Parts. They have good quality products and what I think as good prices.

Been using the Hengst filters from Pelican - never a problem.

I use Pelican's as well and never had an issue (or even thought one existed as I've used Pelican since owning the car). Good to know!

Go get a NAPA Gold number 7211. Great filter. You can change the filter without changing the oil again. You will like it. I buy several at a time when NAPA has their filter specials. I think I paid 9 bucks each for the last batch of 4.

I put the back of the car up on ramps to get under the engine bay. With a drain pan under the filter housing, remove it. Yes a small bit of oil will come out but nothing to worry about. Change the filter and put it back together. Put the car back down flat, check oil level. Top up as needed.
