Annoying creaking noise RESOLVED!

Do you hear a creaking sound coming from behind your head when you go over speed bumps or hit pot holes or uneven pavement?

Might just be one or both of the pins in the clamshell rubbing up against the plastic receiving nut in the bodywork.

I took some lithium grease (not the spray kind but the nasty kind you dip your finger into and apply directly) and lubricated both the pins and inside of the plastic receiver.

Now the clamshell is squeak/creak free when I go over bumps and one of my annoying little issues has been resolved.

Hope this helps you too. Even if your pins are dusty and causing noise, it would be good to lubricate them from time to time to prevent noises.

Annoying creaking noise RESOLVED!

Where exactly is this? Have a picture by any chance to help?

Randall,
Is it one of these in this picture?

Color circles to make it easier to ID... I do spray these locations once in awhile.

Randall,

Could you please post a picture of the area? I have a squeak exactly where you describe and it is killing me.

I'll be watching this thread with interest. Photos would be nice.
Guvs.

It's the two pins on the clamshell and the plastic receivers.

Open the top half way and look under the clamshell for these alignment pins.

They're the thickness of your finger.

i think Randell is referring to the parts marked with the red arrow in this picture:

it will also be smart to grease the rail and joints, circle in red, in the jagermobile pic.

Meir is correct

I will be sure to hit these after the snow is gone again! i have been wondering were this creak is coming from back there.

The only creaking noise I hear in my Boxster is my right knee when I'm getting out.:D

Kenny Boxster 03-23-2013 08:54 AM

Lubed up just about ever joint and where Randall suggested. Top opens smoothly and less creaks as a result!
