replacement key/fob/remote

I tried to find it on here, but no avail.

Someone was working on a replacement key that was similar to the Mercedes or Volkswagen key that "flipped" out of the side of the remote. Was that successful?

Otherwise what is the best way to replace the remote casing of a key? The insides all work, but the plastic buttons look like they are on their last legs.

The casing has two parts. Porsche sells each of them separately. IIRC, about $25 each. You only need to buy the one you are going to replace. The button piece is really easy to replace. Just pop it off and snap the new one on. The other side requires one to take the button side off, remove the battery and electronics, and the key itself. Still pretty easy, just takes more time. No need to take the key to the dealer and have it reprogrammed.

Perfect! That is exactly what I need.

Can I get them online, or do I have to go to the dealership? I tried online, but couldn't find them. I could just be an idiot

The Suncoast site shows a picture of the 2 button version of the upper cap. If you select Add to Cart, you'll get to choose whether you want the 2 or 3 button version. Two buttons are for 2000 and earlier models and 3 buttons are for later models. The "fail safe" way to tell what you need, however, is to look to see what version you have now. Kinda obvious, but one never knows for sure with some Porsche parts.
