The truth about clear markers...

In my 41 years, I have met many types.

"Moon-Truthers" that deny our landing on the moon ever happened.

"Flat-Earthers" who still believe the Earth is flat.

And now, I hear about these "Clear Markerites" that would have a person believe that clear markers are more attractive in any way possible than the stock ones??

What has the world come to??

I mean, you're OK with fire-engine red or taxi-yellow callipers, but not colored markers???

(Pic for the haters....)

I think it makes a huge difference on my Guard's Red Boxster. The little spot of orange clashed against the red. I hated it from the get-go. When I realized they could be changed quickly and easily, I was thrilled.

I think your car would look a lot nicer without the orange interrupting the silver.

Another subtle mod I'm considering; how to get the silver air intake vent to be red . . .

Side markers ain't nothing. You want to talk about cult followers, just mention the IMS bearing.

Perfectlap 02-28-2013 11:14 AM

time to harvest those pumpkins.

KRAM36 02-28-2013 06:24 PM

I love the clear side markers, will be one of my first appearance changes to my ride, also like the clear 3rd brake light.

particlewave 02-28-2013 06:27 PM

Clear side markers and Depo tail lights will be here tomorrow ;)

Thanks for posting this!!! I'm keeping the stock marker lights & when I paint my calipers I have decided on black.

Timco 02-28-2013 06:35 PM

Just 'cause everyone is dong it.........ha ha.

Can LED lights be installed on the rear? I already have the Litronic from the factory. It would be sweet to get LED in front or back.

I like my side markers.....:(

My callipers are bare aluminum. Very reserved look.

My logo paint is all but gone, so I figured to make them look nice & put new logo's on

You can get new logos for the brakes?? Will it fit exactly over old logos? Source??

AKnowles 02-28-2013 06:44 PM

Ah, my litronics arrived today. This weekend I will be deambering them and then installing clear side markers too. Why, because I don't like the amber on my zenith blue metallic car at all.

rondocap 02-28-2013 08:38 PM

I may be off, but I like the orange side markers on my lapiz blue. Makes it full us spec original! Maybe I'm being too purist here, Heh.

For some reason, every link clicked on when using Tapatalk goes to the section about cutting keys. It's pretty annoying .

Ebay - search brake caliper decals. They don't need to fit exactly because the old ones disappear when you prep the calipers for painting. There are LOTS of threads and DIY's about painting calipers and applying new decals.

SeanZ4 03-01-2013 06:11 AM

Rondocap, you're not being too purist. I have a zenith blue '00S and it is 100% bone stock. I like 'em that way. Just my preference.

But if you want to REALLY get technical with it...at least on my '03, the stock markers in Germany are clear, and mine came from the dealership with the clear makers.

I got mine off Ebay. the arrived yesterday & look pretty good. I can't wait to redo the calipers now!

+1 if it ain't broke make no attempt to fix it. I have always preferred color to a lack therein. Ever notice how few white Porsches you see?

Joe B 03-01-2013 12:17 PM

My 2003 came to me (used) with clear markers so I don't really care .

nieuwhzn 03-02-2013 11:10 PM

Hm, I kind of like the orange markers and headlights on my Lapis Blue.
Same for the really red taillights.

Guvs 03-02-2013 11:29 PM

Here is my latest up grade LED side repeaters, got them from Taiwan £60.00, the first pair they sent me let water in so they replaced them and I've given the new ones an extra coating of silicon around the seals. should be fine now.

Sorry, but on silver, I think the clear side markers look much better IMO...especially if your headlamps are amber free.

I took a poll with my friends and just about everyone liked the clears. It coordinates well with the Artic Silver and goes well with the headlights. To each his own. I'm sticking with the clear.

thomasotten 03-03-2013 05:59 PM

But how

Being new to the Boxster thing, I find this all very interesting. I think I am going to keep the amber markers and lights.... mostly because they don't bother me enough to spend the money. You can't deamber the headlights on '00 right?

I think I will save the money and go with a new IMS bearing, painted red to match my factory calipers. ;)

Mark_T 03-03-2013 06:18 PM

I think the clear side markers look much better, but you have to put the silver stealth bulbs in there to really complete the look. Same with the tail lights - no point having clear lenses if you can see those ugly amber bulbs sitting in there.

Guvs - I like the way you've changed your the colour on your centre caps to yellow from red to match your calipers - nice touch! Your lug bolts - are they chrome or stainless or just really polished steel?

Hi Mark.
Thanks for your comments and yes I agree to all the above and have made sure all mine are done even doing the Amberectomy, I have documented everything I have done on our UK Boxster forum here:-
http://www.boxa.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=47899
if you ever get board and need to see some of the modifications in more detail, like the re-colouring of the wheel cap centers, and I got the wheel nut covers off eBay there's more details in the link as to "why get two different sizes" & "how to stop them from spinning off" plus loads more.
Thanks again.
Guvs.
Note these are the wheel nout covers I have (2 sets)

MN 986 03-04-2013 05:27 AM

Not sure why, but I have always liked the deambered look as well. I completely deambered the Litronics I added, got the clear side markers and OEM clear taillights and the smoked LED 3rd brake light, and used the silver Stealth bulbs all around. I think it is a nice clean look on my triple-black car.

I second that, well done looks lovely.
never been a lover of Black until I seen your photos.

I third that ^^^^

MN 986 03-05-2013 04:52 AM

Thanks guys, those are great compliments!
The first picture was taken by a professional photographer that the local PCA chapter had come in to a local show. I love the angle and whatever filter/effect he used to mute the colors. It is one of my favorites also.
This Spring I am going to install the ROW M030 to get the front splitter a little closer to the grass (lowering is not the main goal, I know drop is minimal), turbo look side vents from FVD, and the GT3Tek rear diffuser for the Spyder look. I'll post pics when it is done.
