I would try changing the trans oil first, use the Porsche oil. It made a difference in mine with 120k espescially on the cold shift from first to second. Take a good look at what you drain out also.

Hmm, good idea. I'll do that. Thanks.

Would a '03 GT2 shift assembly be an upgrade

Found a local ad for a 03 GT2 shift assembly for cheap and was wondering if its any better than my 00 5-speed base? And, if it would even fit.

Does the stock shift knob fit with this?

Sorry to resurrect an ancient thread but I recently purchased a used 987 shifter for my 986 off ebay. Havent contacted the seller yet but it didnt include the connector cables. Are these an easy swap from my former shifter? Before they force me to return, and pay more through another seller, just researching my options. Heres a pic of what they sold me.

Yes, they are an easy swap from the old shifter assembly. It's a shame the seller didn't include the hardware with it, but I've done it before. You will need to unscrew the one in the wall part, and pop off the one on the bottom part.

Have you taken the old shifter out yet? My 9x7 shifter came with new ends, and thank goodness because the forward/backward end was totally chewed up, looked like a dog had chewed it. it is parts 10 and 11 on this diagram if you can't reuse the ones from your existing shifter.

Thanks to you both. No I havent looked at my existing shifter linkage yet, car has 114k miles so you might be correct and they may need replacing anyway. If thats the case it may be worth returning and getting one that includes them. This one was $75 and has 60k miles, so it was a decent deal. AOS should be here today sometime so the shifter may wait till next weekend...

Thanks again.
