Someday I'll get an air cooled 911 in addition to my Boxster. I love the top down driving but there is also something about the older 911's. To have both would be ideal for me.

I agree. you need both. One is a bargain and the other will rise in value. win win.

Originally dreamed of the 911. Purchased a gently used S and love winding it up. To me the box is prettier than a 911 cab, and has the right amount of power relative to the car. If it had 350 HP, I wouldn't be able to wind it up as much. I would be in jail or dead in a wreck. I'll keep my 2010S.

p.s.
Kinda of funny... there'a guy who used to be in our NJ PCA chapter. He now drives a Ferrari Scuderia and also has a 997 GT3. Tracks all exensively. Previoulsy autcrossed a Boxster S btw. I remember the day he arrived at an autocross with the new 996 GT3, the temp plates were still in the window, he must have driven it right from the dealer... At any rate he calls the Carreras "aero beetles", says they are wildly over-priced for old technology. LOL.
it drives the GT3 guys who layed out big bucks for theirs absolutely nuts... aero beetles. I love that.

Btw, the 911 turns 50 this year.

I think about the 911 in my garage a lot :D

Yes. There are times when the pedal is down and I want more torque...then again I love the handling. I grew up in a household that went thru several Ferraris and Lambos and such during my time growing up. So The desire for a classic exotic or faster sports car is just ingrained in my mind. I keep seeing 911 and 964s and want them, but I don't know that I want the hassle of a classic car and maintainence... Which always leads me to looking at 997s until I realize I need to win the lottery to get the Countach I really want lol...

Only the air-cooled... but if I were to go through the trouble I might as well get a 356...

I'd never given 911's much thought at all until I bought my Boxster S. I was never a big Porsche fan but I like convertibles and thought the Boxster looked pretty cool. Years pass. Other cars come and go. Used Boxsters get down in my price range and I start looking a little closer. The first time I drove a Boxster S my thought was simple "Oh sh_t, this is great!". A few years later, I buy my first Boxster and after 4 years, it is as amazing, solid, reliable (yes I said it but I'm used to Italian cars) and enjoyable as ever.

So what does my story got to do with 911's? I've never driven one. Never even sat in one. I'm just scared that the experience may be just like the Box. Then I'm screwed because the hunt will begin...

I often hanker after a Cayman or a 996 RS. But not 911s specifically. Don't care about the 911 badge.

Im thinking of buying a 996 turbo someday. If the price comes down to 30K for a clean car, I may pick one up. I will be keeping my Boxster for good. There is no point in selling it as you cant get anything near it for the price. The problems with these cars are overstated so long as you maintain them.

Sure. I yearn for a 09+ 911 most every day when I see one in traffic. Give me 3 more years at this new carreer and I'll be posting pix of my new-to-me 2012 991S :)

aclark133 02-08-2013 12:34 PM

I just want a wide body boxster as well.. Nothing like the 996TT rear fenders

cas951 02-08-2013 06:44 PM

For me I always think of getting a 911 but the standard 911 just didn't get that aww feeling when I drove them. The ones that did (GT3/TT) i can't justify the cost for them at this point. Not that I can't afford one. I guess I'm not willing to go over 100k yet. -and- I also don't have room and have a hard time figuring out which car get's kicked out of the garage.

How often do I think about a 911?

Never. Doesn't cross my mind.

I think about beautiful women a lot. I sometimes think about the beach. I don't think about the 911. If I wanted a 911, I'd buy a 911. I have no interest.

I did see the new issue of Car and Driver. The new Corvette was interesting. I've never thought about a Stingray either...very out of character for me.

rondocap 02-08-2013 09:30 PM

I'm really putting a Cayman S on my list for the future - a 2009 one. Possible Boxster S as well.

I am not sure I can justify the extra cost for the 911 for me personally, since performance wise, The Cayman and Boxster S models are amazing. (Especially the 2009 and newer ones)
