How do you enter and exit your Porsche?
 

Since the Boxster is fairly low to the ground with a low roof, what's the most elegant and efficient way you've found to enter the car?

Generally I enter cars by putting my right foot in, followed by my left foot and sitting down. I am perhaps a little tall for the Boxster, and that works sometimes - but I did rip a pair of jeans entering it like that. Sometimes I sit down on the seat with my legs facing out, and then slide them in.

How do you guys do it? I imagine that if you are a certain height it makes it a bit harder, and you can't "slide" right in.

I put my right foot in, and then pivot my left foot 90 degrees to the left as I lower my tail end into the seat and try not to catch the top of my chin on the door window on the way down :) I do it in a garage and I can't open the door all the way :)

I just climb in. Unless I'm wearing a skirt.

Me too. I put my right foot and then put my right foot out. And then I put my right foot in and then I shake it all about....

I put my right foot in , then I bash my head my head on the roof , then I duck & fall in.

The worst car for getting in and out of was my wife's Jaguar XJ6 - it's almost as low and the doors are shorter.

I sit in seat side ways, both feet on ground. Then spin in right foot then left foot. I do the same getting out. Works great if your back is bothering you also more civilized when wearing a skirt

Right foot on the floor, lower myself in at an angle to clear the roof (and if in a tight parking space, sort of sideways as well), then pull my left foot inside when seated.

To extricate myself, it's a matter of a reverse of sorts. Left foot out, left elbow on body, and push myself up and out. Not elegant at all. :D I've been trying to get into the habit of swinging both feet out then standing up (with a little push on the door sill), but it's been hard to remember to do all the time.

If the car is in my garage with limited door swing, I must put my right foot in first, sit down, and bring in the left foot.

I do the reverse when leaving the car, but boy howdy, my knees are not what they used to be when I was in my 20's and I feel it.

Enter :D , Exit :(

I was thinking it was a jump to the left, then a step to the ri-i-i-i-i-ight. Put your hands on your hips, then squeeze your knees in tight.

Ha, but clear to see that we all developed a strategy for entering and exiting. You just have to think about it a little more in the Boxster than most other cars. :D

i was just thinking about it yesterday, when i found it hard to get out of the car.
and i'm only 42 :eek: whats gonna be 10 years from now?
i guess ill have to drop a pillow on the floor and just fall out of the car :(
or just keep the pillow, and sleep in the car :D

to my defense, i'm 6.2.
assembling Ikea furniture this last weekend didn't help too :D

To further elaborate, as a former fulltime test driver I would enter & exit 15-20 vehicles daily. Yet another reason I fell in love with Porsches is the ease & speed of entry & exit. Fully open the door, turn your back to the opening & drop your butt into the middle of the seat. Swing both feet into their proper place on the pedals while placing the key in the ignition & then close the door. This "training" comes in handy @ the Porsche Sport Driving Experience autoX relay competition. ;)

Top down... running start... be sure to clear the door and miss the shifter.

I totally agree with Byprodriver.
If you simply but you back to the seat and sit down.
Put both feet in as you spin in the seat. This is much easier on the back.
I'm 60 and believe me it works. It also works well for my wife on the passenger side. It also keeps the left side bolster of the drivers seat from getting the normal wear spot.

the previous posts are describing the way you get in with a skirt on...hence the girl car comments. it is the best way to get in though.

Inspired by this thread, I decided to try and develop a new technic of getting inside the car.
The idea is to put the top down, and jump from the back.
Before trying it on my car, and risking damaging the trunk, I decided to try it first on my horse.

I've been doing the "right foot in, turn left foot, drop, pull in left foot," but will have to try this method when I exit hibernation.

As for exiting, I try to block unpleasant memories, but I recall swinging both feet out, bracing right hand on steering wheel and left hand on frame, then pushing/lifting myself up.

Body size definitely influences how you do this. The taller and/or "huskier" you are, the more difficult I imagine it would be.

Johnny Danger probably taught Speed Racer and Robin how to leap into the top-down car.

I'm too big for my car. 6'3" and rapidly approaching 300 pounds. Sometimes I can manage the right foot in and just fall into the seat, but about 75% of time I bang my head. Now I've just given up on that entrance, until I drop some pounds anyway.

Now I get in head first. Like you're just grabbing something out of the passenger seat. From there it is a nice comforatble twist and I'm in with no brain damage and now I can pull it off smoothly so it doesn't just look like I'm a fat guy getting into a little car.

I'm little so I hang on to the steering wheel, put my right foot in, then my left foot in, shake my butt around a little then ease into the seat...of course i never put the top up so this is possible :)
