Pirelli Verification (OE)

Has anyone ever purchased PZeros for their cars from tirerack.com?

I did earlier today and they called me with this interesting tidbit. Pirelli won't ship them out unless they are OE for your car. I believe this a result of them either being on backorder or in high demand. Anyway, they required the VIN. Interesting, huh? (I thought so)

That happens occasionally when a specific size is in short supply. Each of the manufacturers have "spec" tires for Porsche, Mercedes, BMW and others. Sometimes they only make the specific size in a "spec" tire so to make sure enough are available for their "rightful" owners they limit the sale to that specific brand/model of car. ;) Once the supply improves they remove this restriction.

Looks like I won't be getting them... "a nationwide shortage of Perellis" I am told.

Now I am FORCED to buy 4 new tires... and rims! (justification for new rims)
