looking to buy a 987 for under 25k
I had an 02-s a couple years ago and loved it and now am in the market for another, but a 987.
I have only been looking at what is available for a week or two. I am looking for something that is not black or red and is manual. Zenon lights are wanted also along with a decent service history. I have found two base 07's at arlington porsche with 42-47k for right around 25. Is this pricing about right with the market right now being January? I really would like an s but i'm not sure i'll get one for under 25. What are these things going for now? |
that sounds about right for base models . 25 to 29k in the northeast for 07-08 base models. mileage and options make a big difference . if you could ,i would step up to something like this . well optioned and no IMS . 2009 Porsche Boxster-Silver-0a668- Finance Available-

Great time of the year to purchase a convertible Porsche. "Lowest" prices of the driving season, and you'll have it in time for Spring (about 2.5 months away :)).
I'd expect you to find a well loved/cared 2006 987S for your budget, too. Regardless, negitiate hard, and maybe delay your purchase slightly until you have enough saved for the "S". |
That's what i might do is wait, but i have a hard time when it comes to these cars.
I really would like to get an s but i think i'd be happy with a base. I have my eyes peeled on all of the sites. |
You can definitely find them under $25k, I've even seen some 2006's and 2007's that low.
It seems like it's best to stay away from the 2005's, as those seem to be more prone to IMS issues. |
good to know about the 05's. I know if i go through Feb w/o buying one, the prices will definitely creep up.
Has anyone ever dealt with porsche of arlington? |
Does anyone have access to the pca classifieds?
|
I had just called to renew my pca membership so i should have access soon.

Check out Planet-9.com for Private Sellers. I also would not expect any price rise if you wait. Hold out until you find the exact one you want.

At least early model 2005's have an IMS that can be replace as you can on a 986. |
I'm sure you'd be happy with a base, but you'd be happier with an S :D!

Uh...I am one of the few who test drove brand new base and S back in 02. I actually preferred the base because it "felt" like it had a little more torque/low end grunt, and imo, it sounded better with a slightly deeper sound (mind you, this is getting out of one car and immediately into the other). I still own the 02 to this day and believe it or not, is one of my favorite cars I have ever driven (and I have driven a lot).
Unfortunately, I do not have too much exp with 987s. Good luck on your search anyway. |
thanks for all the tips.

For what it's worth, I found an '06 987 base (5-speed, heated seats, auto-dim interior and exterior mirrors, rain-sensing wipers, 18" alloys) in September with 27k miles for $28k. A regular service history was located in MyCarfax logged from Porsche dealers only.
My mom had a PPI done on it, and it came back with a clean slate. So far she's enjoying the hell out of it. |

My jaw drops every time I see a 97 or 98 being offered at $14,500. The spec boxster guys wouldn't pay half that. |

I even considered an 02-04 911 or even a cayman.
and +1 to the overpriced boxsters |
i still would rather have an 03-04 986 S than a base 987.
|
^ 03 and 04 Boxsters were also the heaviest.
I'd hold off on any 987 purchase for at least a year. The 2013 Boxster might shake up the pricing of the second hand Boxster market. I believe there's going to be more demand for the new Boxster because Carrera pricing has priced out many would be 911 buyers. On the time sheets, there's not much between the 2013 Boxster S and the 2013 base Carrera. The Carrera S is way expensive this time around. |
i looked at two 07's at arlington porsche and they werer beat. I also looked at an 04 911 at euro motorcar, that was even worse.
