Putting replacement glass in a door mirror, broke something....

Hi,

Newbie here, but glad to join the community. I got a dumb question.

This piece should stay in the housing, but when I was changing the glass, it came off.

Trouble is, I can't figure out how to put this piece back securely.

I took a look around the forum and the web for a DIY.... But so far it's either instructions about replacing the housing or just the glass.. But not putting this piece back on.

Anyone know how to re secure it?

This is a guess.

It looks like the ring has separated from adjusting motor. As best I can tell from the parts catalog picture, the ring is an integral part of the motor assembly. It's hard to know, but the diagram doesn't show the ring as a separate part.

Perhaps it you can press fit it back on. To make it easier, you might remove the motor base from the mirror housing by removing the attachment screws. If you can't see how to press fit it, you might try gluing it back together with an epoxy. Before you do so, I'd suggest waiting to see what others say.

If you end up replacing the whole mirror. I was able to find one off ebay for $60 from a dismantler, was in great shape and arrived quickly.
