cover exhaust tip when storing for winter ?
Was watching Motorweek other night (they were reviewing the lastest Cayenne).
They had a segment on vehicle storage. The dude recommended covering your exhaust tip. Anyone out there do this ? Just wondering. http://i2.listal.com/image/2620129/500full.jpg I guess the reasons for doing it would be many and fairly obvious. One being how I had posted just this past spring about the "Mousehunt" type battle I had experienced myself with my air filter and how they could enter the exhaust as well. Never had a problem with mice in the exhaust, but one winter they built a nifty condo under the intake plenum of my 5.0 out of the underhood insulation pad.

You can search this forum for threads on winter storage. Some mention putting steel wool in the exhaust, others mention covering with a plastic bag, others make no mention of any extra precaution.
This is my first Winter storage of a car since, so I read through all of them. I know mice get in my detached garage, so I took the plastic bag precaution. I have the dual-tip exhaust, and used sandwich size Baggies, which don't have the "fold-over" but twist ties instead. Didn't buy them special for this; they're the "doggie-do" bags I use several times each day. Put one bag over each tip and secured with a rubber band. |
Stuff em with Bourbon Balls...
