Do the Boxsters have brake pad sensors which indicate wear?

I went to a north county dealer yesterday and was told that the 2005 and later Boxsters have a sensors which indicate on the dash when the brake pads are down to 20%. I looked in my brochure for this feature and it was not mentioned. Do they fact have this sensor? Where are they described? Thanks

My 2001 has it, so I'd expect later models do too. There are electronic sensors at the pads which are supposed to trigger a warning light with pad wear. They are often disconnected by folks using performance pads (as they are usually watching the pad wear). My user manual covers the indicator, look under "warning lights".

Thanks, that takes care of that. I just talked to my neighbor who has a 2001 Boxster and he loves it. No complaints. I am getting closer.

My 01S has them.

Please note however that some that do there own maintenance do not replace them. So if you didn't purchase your car new have a check.

(Nothing wrong with not replacing the indicators/wires, however if you rely on them and they are not in you could be hurting your rotors some time ;-)

Mark.

My 98 Boxster has them, so I guess the later cars all will.

I believe all Porsches have them. My '87 928 has them along with the '00 Boxster.

The dealer replaces them every time the pads are replaced, so this is something that will show up in a PPI. I believe if you remove them the warning light will come on so that should not be a concern, but still verify everything with a PPI.
