manual gearshift pops forward in 2nd gear

I have a 2005 boxster 2K miles and now the shifter kicks forward about 1 inch after putting the gear into second. The same thing happens after shifting into 3rd gear. Any suggestions?

Does it come out of gear when it kicks forward? In the 2000 MY, there is usually some kick, but not an inch, more like 1/4" when you hit or let off the gas.

Interesting. I wonder if your situation is similar to mine.

Here, go read this thread and tell me if it describes your problem:

Of cousre, I guess it's only interesting if you have the six-speed tranny.

The kick is definitely noticeable and more than 1/4 inch. It does happen when I push on the gas-which is unacceptable to me for any car. I have an appt this friday for the dealer to check out.

The situation does sound similar to eslai's link.
