Intentional tire mounting overinflation?
 

My Boxster is getting new tires today, and after I get it home and let the tires cool down, I will check the pressures, because it seems to me that whenever I get new tires, on any of my cars through the years, the pressures have always been too high.

This makes me wonder if this is possibly intentional...to make the bead seal better to the rim or something? Or whether this is just inattention on the part of the mounters? Is there any reason why I should not reduce the pressure as soon as possible after cool-down?

It happens because the tech mounting the tires never bothers to check and reset the pressure. Pure sloppiness......

Yes, to seat the tire the tech pumps it up to about 50 psi to set the tire, then bleeds off the pressure, usually to around 36, which is a fairly safe presssure for most tires.

I'll be adjusting the pressures tomorrow, and checking the lugnut torques.

I always check the tire pressures and lug nut torque after getting new tires. Maybe I'm cynical but I just assume that the tech will do a sloppy job. Wow. I'm starting to sound like my dad.
