Micro Fiber Towels
 

Do any of you really notice a difference in the cars appearance when using a micro fiber towel to maintain your car(not including waxing and polishing) compared to 100% cotton towels?

I personally love micro fiber. I use them to dry the car, remove wax, clean the interior, clean the plastic rear window...you name it. They absorb so much water. This leaves no streaks or lint after drying. Once cotton gets a bit wet it "smears" the water instead of removing it like micro fiber.

Well, since I work for 3M and we were the first "micro'fibre" towel makers (we sell them as professional cleaning cloths), I must say they are great! :)

More than that, I think it's a matter of what micro fiber towels don't do - leave marks, scratches, etc.

well three things based on my experience with dark colored cars and MF.

1. don't use MF with split fibers, the prickly ones. You know by running your hand across it. This is intented for cleaning not buffing. There is no way those prickly ends aren't marring your paint. look for a towel wih a looped end if you are working with paint.

2. Make sure the MF is absolutely clean. Thse towels are very good at trapping dirt and debris but its also stubborn at letting it go. I've washed some towels several times and could still see debris in there.

3. Make sure its Korean made. Don't rub Chinese MF on your Porsche. They use cheap threading machines meaning its not the best you can get and its still expensive.


and of course the less you touch the paint the less it swirls.

Oh Oh I didn't realize there was a difference in where MF were made - hopefully the ones I bought came from Korea. Bought them from Sams Club (= Costco but Costco better) 18 MF towels for approx $10. Will have to check to see where they were made. Boo hoo if made in China.

use those Chinese towels for your interior or to clean your wheels.
And STOP BUYING CHINESE MADE BIG BOX ITEMS!

For your paint, do your Boxster a favor and spend a few bucks on some nice high end towels. try some of these.

Called Autopia-carcare.com and they informed me that their Sonus der wonder polishing towel is MF without a split end. They are $5 each sold in packs of two.
the edging is surge bound to eliminate the threads catching/fraying and causing microscratches.

and I highly recommend Klasse VLRP on your black plastic and tires. It gives a great like-new shine with a more sublte look.
