Smart Top

Hello everyone,

I found an advertisement in Porsche GT Magazine. Its for a control that allows you to raise and lower the top while the car is moving. This applies to the 986. I think it is pretty interesting. While not a boxster owner yet, I try to read all that I can about Porsche. Here's the link:

https://www.wilhelmy-it.de/

P.S. Does anyone know of a good Porsche magazine that features the boxster, not just the 911, thats published and written in America? Most of the mags I've found are from England. I need a magazine written from an American point of view and of course features advertisers from here.

Thanks for any input.

if you cover the #18 pin on the fuse for the top with scotch tape it will allow you to lower the top while moving. You just need to engage the 3-brake at least one click so that the e-brake light appears on you dash. Total cost $0

but the product you've listed is cool too, I think it allows for one touch lowering of the top while the car is moving. if its parked you have to hold the button.
nice but not worth that kind of dough.
p.s. did I tell you I just spent $100 on sivler hood crest?

Join the Porsche Club of America and you will get "Panorama" magazine. Tons of advertisers in the U.S. along with articles on all types of Porsches and tech tips. It's $40/year, just put "Boxster" in the "what is your Porsche" blank.

Hi,

IMHO, eliminating the 5-6 sec. it takes to lower the Top isn't worth risking the Top's operation. FYI, the stresses put upon the roof and it's mechanism when raising/lowering it while in motion aren't a good thing. Even at under 5MPH, you can stress it. This may mean future problems with the top's operation.

Besides, who hasn't got 5-6 seconds to spare for the care of their Porsche? Use the time to take a breath, meditate or something. We all move too fast in our Daily lives anyway.

Happy Motoring!...Jim'99

Borders or Barnes & Noble have some good imported magazines too.
The BOxster and the 911 share allot of parts (the BoxsterS slightly more)
so its good to read some of the 911 articles. Purely Porsche is a good one.
