How to remove dash alarm led? It's buzzing and squeaking!

Hi guys,

Can anyone advise on how to remove the part shown below? It's the alarm readiness cover on the dashboard, circled in red and part 2 in the diagram.

I have tried to get a knife underneath but can't seem to get any leverage on it to prise it out?

Any suggestions? The squeaking is driving me nuts!

I've not done this myself. Meir, another forum member, posted a detailed explaination on how to remove the dash board. Here's a photo showing how he removed the sensor.

I'd been trying to remove only the plastic cover part that covers the flashing led rather than the whole housing.

That presumably will make things much easier! I'll try it later tonight.

Did you ever succeed in quieting it down? Mine seems to make quite a racket on (bumpy) city streets...

The lens will be easier to remove if you remove plastic cover first.
Gently remove it using a plastic prey bar.
It should pop out easy.
As an FYI, there are plenty of plastic pray bar kits on eBay.
It's a very inexpensive tool, and must have, if you are working on your car.

If you have a rattle noise, it might not be seated fine, or one of it's locking tabs is broken.
As far as I know, it's not an expensive part to replace.

Hi; yes I did.

I got rid of about 95% of the noise.

I removed the whole unit (rather than just the lens which as far as I could tell is not removable) as in Thom's photo above. I just used a kitchen knife to pry it out. There are no wires or connections to worry about.

I then used some speaker foam I happened to have lying around which is convenient as it is sticky back. I used this to pad where the unit clips in. This mostly fixed the problem.

The other 5% I think is actually coming from the lens part and whilst this is now only a very minor and occasional irritation I do intend to take the whole unit and go around the underside of the lens with superglue.

Hope that ramble above helped and if you have any questions I'll try to answer them.

When I get round to taking it off again I'll add some pictures.
