engine compartment matting

hi all-i have had my boxster 7 months now and just yesterday took a look at my engine (and learned the process of exposing it,thanks to a search on the forum here) i was happy to see it was very clean for a 10 yr old car, and i went through and made sure all the hoses and clamps looked good-but i do have a question, on both sides next to the maf sensor and air-oil seperator, there is some heat/sound matting stuck to the underside of the body of the car that has begun to detach and hang a bit, it is very brittle and puts out alot of dust when i touch it-should i try to re attach it? leave it alone? pull it all off? anyone else dealt with this stuff? thanks-
