alarm problems

I noticed that when I lock the car (2003/986) the alarm led's are blinking two times fast. I checked all switches and seem to be fine including the glove bx and middle tray. Then to test, I open the middle tray (locked with windows down, and the lights starts flashing (alarm triggered) but no siren can be heard.
Any clues please?

Is there a siren in the car? I thought the factory alarm used the horn and lights. Does the horn work otherwise?

My understanding there is two separate horns on the car. One for the anti-theft system

Thanks for your replies. In Europe it seems that the alarm system is one of the things that are different in Boxsters to the USA versions. Yes the alarm is a separate box, next to the battery. It also has a built-in battery too.The horn is just that, a horn.

hi again. So now it is becoming more confusing for me :( I went to check about the horn next to the battery, and can see that in fact there is one and it was unplugged!!. I plugged it and the alarm is now working fine. BUT, my question is, how come this car has both the horn connected to the alarm and also a separate siren box with a built in battery in it too?

regards

Jojo
