New Boxster Keys
Is there any cheaper/discounted way to get new set of main keys made other than going thru the dealer who is charging $300!

Your only other option is going to a specialty Porsche mechanic. Key still costs $180 and needs to be programmed, expect to still cost around $210.

Well, there is one other way. Watch for a remote key head on ebay that has the white hang tag on it with a barcode and a string of numbers below it. Insure it matches a part number you have secured from your dealer, which may not be easy because dealers aren't supposed to give out part numbers.
DO NOT BUY A USED KEY OR A KEY HEAD WITHOUT THIS HANG TAG When you get it, take the key head to the dealer and ask them to cut a new blank and program it to your car, which you must give them as well. Cutting a new key head was $25 for me and the programming was a half hour or $50. The key head with a hang tag off Ebay was $50, but I've seen them go for $95...dealer wants $145 or so I think. So, you CAN get a cheaper key for your car if you're willing to watch ebay and only buy one that has that tag and matches your part number. |
