Used Oil Analysis at 57194 miles

For people who enjoy reading this kind of stuff. The oil was Red Line 5W-40 and it was the first time I've used it.

Also included my trending info if you really enjoy reading this stuff.

Regards,
paul...

Nice UOA. I used Red Line 5W40 for a few years with excellent results, like yours. Two years ago I switched to Mobil 5W50 (hard to find viscosity) and the UOA's improved slightly, so I am very happy with this choice too.

I am thinking about switching again to the new Joe Gibbs 5W40. from Jake and L&N Eng. Anyone try this yet?

Here is a bit of a comparison.. Our lab uses a little different system since the data is actually used to develop base oils, detergency and anti-wear packages. This sample was taken at 8K miles as well.

I see some values in your previous UOA history that indicate the use of Mobil 1, looks like two of them for sure. What have been your impressions over the time that you have gathered this trend data?

^Jake, should I make the switch, or keep running the Mobil 5W50? Based on my UOA.

I've always felt that the Motul 8100 and M1 5W-40 TDT got the job done, but I switched to RL because those other oils gave me valvetrain noise on startup -- RL doesn't. I never bothered with M1 0W-40 because that's what's in my wife's 03 MB E320 and it always has valvetrain noise on startup.

BTW, if anyone wants the Excel spreadsheet of my history (to delete my stuff and add yours), PM me your email.

Regards,
paul...

I also found the RL was always best for start up noise as well.. In that regard its even better than our current DT40 offering, but the DT40 modified thats in testing now should solve the issue. Its all a continuing evolution.

Jake, when will this tweak/revision be completed? I want to buy a case of oil from Charles, but I'd like the most updated product. I'm due for an oil change in late September, as I prepare the car for winter hibernation.

Will it be ready before then?

Thanks.

Redline makes excellent motor oil and ATF... too bad they're not as easy to locate where I am.

It won't be through my testing for another 8 months or so.
