sway bar bushings

what kind of life does everyone find in their sway bar bushings? I have 70K on my c 4 chassis and have not pulled the bottom plastic to look at mine, but when hitting bumps or washboard surfaces I can hear a little sound like the sway bar contacting the frame. I do drive it hard and I see no change in handling.http://986forum.com/forums/uploads01...1343308833.jpg

The knocking sound could be a lot of things but sway bushings are a good place to start. Cheap and easy. After 10 yrs they are pretty far gone on most cars.

Agree. Last month when I replaced my original 1999 suspension (110K miles) with the PSS9 kit and 996 sway bars, I found that almost all of the rubber components of the original suspension were pretty well gone.

So in addtion to the sway bar bushings what other easy to replace rubber suspension parts should I consider doing? Thanks!

The factory sway bar drop links can become loose and sloppy over time and exposure to the elements. I installed the excellent Tarett Engineering adjustable sway bar drop links when I switched out my factory 'S' suspension components for the M030 suspension setup.

I had a sound like you are describing and it was part of the muffler bracket broken. I pulled my sway bar bushings off for my IMS project and I am thinking of changing them out with poly proflex ones but looking at them after 107K I wouldn't say they are warn in a way that would make any noise.

The upper shock mounts (mostly rubber) can also deteriorate but they have to be really gone to knock.

Once you get started, its easy to replace everything:

When I installed the new suspension, I used new upper shock mounts (front and rear), new sway bars/bushings (front and rear), new front lower control arms/bushings (adjustable), new rear toe arms/bushings (also adjustable), and new front and rear end links (adjustable tarrett).
