first, pull up shifter boot and make sure jam nut is secure against housing... From there, you'll have to remove center console and make sure plastic ball joints where cables meet shifter are not cracked/split. Also check guide at transmission to ensure cables are securely in place.

There is no adjustment to cables/ends themselves which would allow play and still permit proper gear selection...
