Wheel alignment ?

Hi,

My 2001 Boxster doesn't seem to be gripping the road as much as I think it should, it almost feels like it's riding on rollerskates. Also, the steering wheel is slightly askew, not much.. just a bit.

I went to a Tire and Alignment store and they said they needed the special PST2 tool to set the 'Steering wheel alignment' and they weren't able to do it for me.

Granted I didn't spend too much time trying to fix the problem but am curious as to what could the trouble be ?

Is it wheel alignment ?
Do we need a special tool to correct it ?
Should I really go the the dealership for their alignment $199 on special ?

Thanks
Terry

I believe the PST2 is required to recalibrate the Yaw sensor in the steering column.
My 2000 S hit 101,000 miles today & I have had it realigned many times & demand the steering wheel be recentered if needed, but never by a shop that has a PST2 or needed it. Thank any shop that says they are not qualified to work on your Porsche & find a shop that is. The shop that does my alignments here in LA uses a 40 year old rack & strings. $150. for front & rear.

Here in NASCAR country NC, I payed my Porsche Indy $80.00 and took out a couple degrees for highway driving only. This was done at the same time He installed new tires. I am happy with the "Cadi " ride and the 80 bucks spent.

Took out a couple of degrees of what? Camber? Thats huge and actually impossible to do wit a stock suspension. I think you've been snookered.
