The Squeaky Wheel....

Anyone had this before?

2002 986, my right rear wheel squeaks really loudly for about 1/4 mile, after I hit about 25 mph. This just started. It almost sound like rubber - "ERRK! ERRK! ERRRK!", then it goes away.

It is dependent upon wheel speed.
It is independent of engine speed.
Applying the brakes has no effect.
It is getting louder.

I have the car jacked up now and I'm spinning the wheel and just hear a little bit of brake drag.

Just for laughs, I sprayed the boots with some silicone and took a short drive, to no effect.

If I corner to the left, it squeaks (after it warms up a little and has "gone away").

TIA

wheel bearing or CV axle... in my case it was the bearing. easy fix with an SIR B-90 tool.
