On Board Instruments Boxster 2.5

I have some questions after reading owner manual boxster MY01. My 986 is MY99.

1. There is a illumination sensor on board to give accurate intensity to light board. My On board instruments only turns on when position light is on. Is it broken?

2. To turn key, fourteen warning lights turn on, but there is no light for luggage compartments lids. Is it broken?

3. In owner manual, digital speedometer is under analogic speedometer, but my digital speedometer is in centre, just under tachometer. ... Is it normal?

4. I have been able to see a warning light turned off with "CAT" or so, in yellow. What Is?

Regards.

1) I don't understand what you're refering to when you say "position light is on". What's the "position light"?

2) I'm not sure if that one normally turns on when the key is turned. Open your trunks then turn the key and see if it lights up. If so, close one and check again, then do the opposite and you've tested all of the switches.

3) That's normal. Analog speedo is on left, tach (since it's most important) in the center w/ digital speedo under it, other gauges on the right (with the ever important oil pressure and voltmeter gauges missing :( ).

4) I don't understand that one either. Does the warning light say "CAT" on it? I don't have my manual with me to see what light you're talking about.

1) When you turn the light swith to position "1".

2) No light turns on when opening trunks, .... broken bulb?

3) Thanks. ;)

4) Yes, light say "CAT", it is on left side to "check engine" light

The CAT light was illuminated in my 97 boxster when I accidentally left my garage door open one afternoon. Seems the tabby from next door jumped into the driver's seat and set off the alarm. There's a feline detector in the dash that will temporarily illuminate that lamp if a stray jumps into the car and sets off the motion detector-driven alarm. :p

There were instrument panel display changes on the '01 cars vs. earlier models. One of them appears to have been the location of the digital speedometer on the European KM/H speedos.
I have seen photos of an '01 Euro car showing the digital speedo on the analog speedometer instrument, with the odometer/trip odo on the tach display (see "Porsche Boxster" by Brian Long, p. 165), although this may have been because of the optional trip computer on the photographed car.
The analog speedo also goes to 300km/h vs 250km/h on earlier cars. Or maybe this is an "S" vs std. issue.
Using an owner's manual from an '01 car to compare to the instruments on your '99 may be misleading.

I'm willing to bet your car has a catalytic converter sensor and the CAT light would illuminate when one of the catalyic converters are not doing their job.
