Ashtray issue

I just got home from the first 1000 trip in my box over the holiday weekend. I have a question about the ashtray. It was the first time I drove for hours after dark. After about 2 hours, the center console got pretty hot. I flipped up the cover on the ash tray and the light was on. It comes on when you turn your lights on, but is it suppose to go out when you close the cover? I don't see a switch to shut it off when the cover is closed. Also, how do remove the little light bulb from it's socket? I will be ordering an ashtray delete soon but would like to deal with the situation now.

P.S. trip went without a hitch. Drove 9 hours on Monday in 95 degree temps with air running hard without missing a beat

Thanks for any help.

Yeah, there is no mechanism to shut it off when lid is closed.

1) pull ashtray out.

2) remove the two t30 Torx screws directly under the ashtray.

3) pull up on the entire ashtray/switch portion of the console. There will be some resistance when it pops out due to the flare nuts that the Torx screws screw into. This is normal. Just use a short, quick pull to free it. If you pull hard and slow, when it gives, you may pull it too far and pull some of the switch wire loose, so be careful. You've got about six inches of play in the wires.

4) disconnect the connector from the bulb socket. The bulb and socket are one piece, so there's no way to just pull the bulb.

Takes about 2 minutes.
Good luck!

I like that little ashtray light. It helps me find the coins we keep in it at night.

You can't replace just the bulb.
