Tall Boxster Drivers

I'm 6"3' (191cm) tall. Height is mainly from having a long trunk / body rather than long legs.

I was just wondering how all the tall boxster (pre-2004) owners find their cars comfort wise.

KJM 08-30-2005 02:37 AM

I am 6' 4", 240 pounds and fit fine.

chan_paul2003 08-30-2005 02:47 AM

Thanks for your input KJM.
Do u mind me asking. What year is your boxster?

KJM 08-30-2005 02:49 AM

2005. I have had it a month, with absolutely no problems

chan_paul2003 08-30-2005 02:57 AM

That's great to hear!

I understand the 2005 model (987) has a fully adjustable steering column which makes it far more accessible for bigger / taller ppl. I love convertibles, but unfortunately my height restricts me somewhat: S2000 and pre-2004 SLKs are too small. Z4 fits like a gloove and I'd prefer a little more room in it!

I'm interested in buying a 2002 or 2003 model (986), however. I'd be interested if any tall drivers, could share their thoughts.

I'm 6'4"/200 lbs., also tall in the torso - love the car. Not a lot of extra room, but it's a comfortable driving position, even when I'm in the car for a while. The one drawback is the yardstick test for track days. The local track is lenient (one of the few) and lets me drive DE with the stock bars. I'm considering a BK extension so I can get into more tracks. But on the road - no problems. Certainly bigger than the Miata I had before :)
Search the threads - I think some people have found aftermarket seats that are thinner and sit in the floor - giving an extra inch or so headroom. Racing seats may not provide touring comfort, though.

chan_paul2003 08-30-2005 04:22 AM

Thanks for that.

I can't believe u can fit into a miata / mx5. When I sat in one of those, I had to literally tilt my head 45 degrees!

My wife is 6'-2". The biggest reasons we got the Boxster were it's a convertible where her knees don't hit the steering wheel/dash, and her hair doesn't hit the roof. :D

im only 6'1 and my legs hit the steering wheel etc. I'm looking for gt3 seats cause they bolt straight in and apparently lower you an inch? I find the whole driving position uncomfortable. Crossing fingers Gt3 seats fix it all. Oh but i lose my heated seats. mmmm warm :o

Perfectlap 08-30-2005 06:01 AM

the GT3 seats are like having your stock seats in the lowest position. They also let you sit a few inches further back. I believe there there is a Brey Krause attachment that lowers the seats a bit more.

Perfect - I've seen the BK website on alternative seat attachments, it sounds like it would work. Has anyone actually installed this in their car? How much headroom/legroom did it add? Installation: simple bolt-in or are "modifications" needed? (What I'm after is whether you could easily return the car to stock later on.)

I went for a smaller wheel in the end (340mm) and it took away any knee/steering wheel problems

It also feels much better being that bit smaller and a nice thicker grip than stock I must say

I am 6'2 and 220lbs and I fit quite well. My head is way below the windshield and my knees aren't even close. I have my seat all the way back and lowered and my steering wheel telescoped forward....telescoped (is that a word?)

I think it is more comfortable than my old maxima.

Dr. Kill 11-03-2005 02:58 PM

I am 6'1" and don't move the seat all the way back. Plenty of room and very comfortable. My wife and I just finished a cross country drive and thought the car was more comfortable than our Acura or Toyota. Ours is a 2005 though and my understanding is that there is a little more room inside than in the 986. I could be wrong there though.

one of my client is a very heavy fella, he owns a red boxster S and as he says when ask, he WEARS his boxster ah ah!

S_PILOT 11-03-2005 06:50 PM

I'm 6'6" and about 295lbs. I can only drive the Boxster with my shoes off.....seriously. there's not much room in the foot well on the driver's side(well, not for size 12's anyway), plus the height of the shoes presses my thighs right up onto the steering wheel. with my shoes off, heel and toeing is no problem, I just have to position my foot on the brake properly...

It's my wife's car, so I only drive it when she's not in it and it's a really nice day to have the top off(something I can't do in my Z06)

Of course, she can't do a 1+G on the skidpad, or hit 155mph on the track in her Boxster S either ;)

olly986 11-05-2005 02:55 AM

I have to say that in the S the electric sport seats are way better than my previous boxster's electric seats which were comfy but lacking back and side support.
I am not that tall 1.75m (5.74) but i find that space is a little limited, tried various seat and steering wheel positions i found one which is quite confortable for long journeys I then just have to push the back a little for track days to allow helmet fit.
